Homebound (2025) Review

There are very few movies that have deeply moved me, and Homebound is one of them. This movie leaves a lasting impact and makes you think, and I believe that’s the true beauty of cinema it can shift your perception of life and give you a perspective on the things happening around you.

Homebound is set in rural India, showcasing the raw and authentic struggles of ordinary people. Friendship is at the heart of this story, and the way it’s portrayed feels so real that it stays with you.

The story follows two characters Shoaib (Ishaan Khatter) and Chandan (Vishal Jethwa) trying to become police constables and escape the cycle of poverty. As the movie progresses, we witness harsh realities like unemployment, casteism, and social inequality. These scenes make you realise how privileged many of us are and expose the brutal truth of the world outside our comfort zones.

The acting by each and every member of this movie is exceptional, especially of that of Ishan Khattar and Vishal Jetwa was just too good .

By the end of the film, I couldn’t hold back my tears. Seeing the grave pain and struggles of these characters was heartbreaking . Homebound is not just a film, it’s an experience that forces you to feel and reflect.

For me, it was time and money well spent on a movie that deserves to be remembered. I am sure that in the coming years, people will rediscover it on OTT and call it an underrated gem because it’s not your typical mass-masala entertainer with big stars, but something much deeper.

Special credit goes to Neeraj Ghaywan for his direction and Pratik Shah for his brilliant cinematography. Every frame breathes life into the story from dusty roads to the intimate spaces of rural homes, making the environment feel like another character.

Rating: 4.5/5

Note:

Bollywood does make great films like Homebound or Superboys of Malegoan but unfortunately, audiences often only buy tickets for big-budget masala movies. Because of this, meaningful, character-driven films struggle at the box office. As viewers, we are also responsible for that. So please, do yourself a favour and watch Homebound in cinemas near you.
