From the world of John Wick, Ballerina is a complete paise vasool action experience. I caught the first morning show in a Bengaluru screen that recently upgraded to laser projection thanks to Inox India for making this experience sharper than ever. Right from the beginning also got to experience a interval free cinemas which is unusual in India but I loved it , the film sets its tone: no drama, just deadly dance moves in form of action.
Let’s be honest if you’re watching something from the John Wick universe, you're not here for deep storytelling. And that’s exactly the point Ballerina nails. While the story is not fresh, it’s the execution that wins you over. The first half builds the character of Eve Macaro (Ana de Armas) beautifully. The techno music, neon-soaked visuals, and her first kill scene in the pub all of it is engaging and electric. The car chase scene was an unexpected high point too.
The second half, mostly shot in the snowy lanes of Hallstatt, Austria, turns up the heat. Flamethrowers, grenades, hand-to-hand fights all captured in breathtaking detail. Director Len Wiseman has delivered a tight screenplay where an action set piece lands every 5–10 minutes. The stunts are top-tier, and the cinematography by Romain Lacourbas is gritty yet stylish and top notch keeping the John Wick legacy alive without being overly glossy.
And yes, the god himself John Wick (Keanu Reeves) makes an appearance that justifies his legendary presence. What I appreciated most was how the film doesn’t turn Ballerina into a superhero. It's clearly shown how weak ballerina is but still she is cleverly able to play by her strengths and kill her enemies that's what makes her journey worth it.
